As banks focus more on building primary customer relationships in the wake of the financial crisis, improving onboarding procedures for new customers should be a priority, says consultant Gary Stein in the latest issue of BAI Banking Strategies. Since cross-selling is most effective in the first few months after a customer opens an account, onboarding provides the best opportunity to sell products such as direct deposit and online bill pay, which strengthen customer ties to the bank, Stein says. »more
